Dissection (n): A 2000-3000-word essay that explores an interesting idea, makes a compelling argument, or tells an engaging story about a piece of horror media.
If you need more definition than that, peruse other Dissections we've posted on this website. If you’re interested in writing one, send us a pitch. The form on this page suggests you keep it to 300 words, but we recommend even shorter. Because we have very short attention spans. Our ideal pitch is about three sentences:
What piece of media do you want to write about and why?
What interesting idea, argument, or story do you want to express about that piece of media?
What kind of essay do you have in mind (film analysis, cultural commentary, personal essay, book review, etc.)?
We’ll do our best to respond within a couple weeks. If six weeks go by, and you still haven't heard back, give us a poke.
